Start of the development phase with working groups on various topics: The innovative construction and utilization concept is developed together with the future users. The first phase runs from July 2013 to spring 2014.
Six working groups develop visions on the topics of “housing”, “community”, “commerce”, “culture”, “outdoor space and neighborhood” and “sustainability”. On this basis, the cooperative develops the parameters for an architectural competition.

2019

February:
The rental process “Wohnen im Alter” has been completed. In the Zollhaus, a 7-person shared apartment and two 3-person shared apartments are being built for people in the third phase of their lives. The rental process “Hallenwohnen” begins.

March:
The rental process of regular apartments in the Zollhaus is opened (all members who became members of the cooperative Kalkbreite before the AGM on 20 June 2018 are eligible to apply).

June:
The rental commission communicates about commitments at the “Hallenwohnen”. Four hall-apartments of different sizes with at least 11, 7, 5 and 2 persons are realized.

July:
Presentation of the facade design at the Office of Urban Development. The facade is approved as presented.

August:
Creative cooperative members and members of the public paint the construction site walls on the Langstrasse in a big event.

2020

January 16:
“Roofing ceremony” for the construction workers* and planners*. It is not a matter of course that everything goes as planned on a construction site. All the more reason for the cooperative to look back on the last one and a half years of construction work and to note that all unexpected incidents could be absorbed thanks to excellent construction management and enthusiastic planners.

March 17:
The Federal Council declares a Swiss-wide lockdown due to the novel Covid 19 virus. The construction sites continue to operate in compliance with hygiene protection measures. Fortunately, no cases of illness were recorded at Zollhaus construction site.

June 2020:
The houses Z111, the corner house with roof garden for the future kindergarten (see photo), and Z121, with an inviting forum at the corner of Zoll-/Langstrasse, are equipped and the facades are in full splendor!

October 2020:
The first building at Zollstrasse 115 is completed and will be handed over to its tenant, the city of Zurich, these days: The unique urban kindergarten in a spectacular location opens its doors after the autumn vacations 2020.
